159 Cases of Gender-Based Violence Recorded in Kwara State in One Year

Over the past year, the Gender Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State has documented 159 cases of gender-based violence (GBV), signaling a significant increase and ongoing challenge in addressing this issue.

These cases include 76 instances of domestic violence, 58 cases of abandonment of responsibility, 11 cases of sexual abuse and rape, 12 cases of threats to life, and 2 cases of missing children.

Dr. Umar Mohammed, Commandant of NSCDC Kwara State Command, emphasized the Corps' commitment to continuing collaborative efforts to combat GBV, stressing the need for actionable intelligence to prevent future incidents.

The statistics highlight the urgent need for community involvement and enhanced enforcement measures to curb the rising trend of GBV in the region.
